These Aren't The Minutes You're Looking For...

It turns out the minutes I'm displaying for Family Plans aren't the minutes y'all are interested in. That said, "Sorry." I had intended to make the Family Plan display a bit more intricate, we'll just consider this motivation to speed that up.

I guess you mean how it shows individual used minutes instead of group? Or is it showing me someone else's minute usage? lol

It's showing how many minutes you have used out of the group minutes. Most user demand has been for total minutes used out of the group plan

Known Issues

thats a link to the known issues post. I only post it because I ran into one of those problems and figure someone else might appreciate it.

Couldn't you just parse that "Voice & Data Usage" page on both regular and family accounts? No need to split it all up and make new fancy pants UI like you were planning, right?

Great work guys! I recently switch from VZW to AT&T. I used to use Winston Hung's "VZW Minutes Used". It's great to see that you have the skills to do the AT&T version. It's my suspicions that you'll get alot of users with the release of the iPhone :).

Thanks guys.... look for a humble donation soon!

I don't know if I am the only one who feels this way but I think it would be cool to see the names and minutes used for each tab. IE, add a field for the Group and minutes used and fields for each member. I manage my family plan of 4 phones and it would be cool if I could see each phone's usage without having to log in and click through the tabs. If you can (and want to) do this, let me know if you want samples from my account.

Thanks,
~Mike

Hey guys-
I just changed my ATT Number and Minute Minder won't accept the change. It keeps reverting back to the same number in the Preferences setup, even with an uninstall and reinstall.

How can I find where it's reading that from?
Thanks much; great extension.

It's probably reading it from your saved passwords in firefox. Look in those for your old number and remove that saved password. When you give your new number, if it hasn't already, it should ask you to save it.

Thanks much.
That's where it was. Works great now.

Hey Mike; you're not the only one. I have a family plan too and would love to see that feature

I think that's a good idea too. The only thing is it would probably be a monstrosity, in order to fully implement it you might need some sort of tabbing mechanism or a large window.

I'd imagine if you can log into at&t's website and see a summary like a normal user that you should be able to see info with this but as I do not have a gophone I cannot speak for certain.

fitch had a good idea, and it would make it easier to get data for each of the people on the family plan as a few have suggested. It is also has a nice way to display that information. If you took the whole table from "Minute Usage by Phone Number" and then add another row called "Total Minute Usage" and a row called "Allowed Minute Usage" and another row called "Remaining Minutes" you could cram everything in fairly neatly. Text messages would be the only thing that would get messy since each phone has (or doesn't have) there own text message limit.

I was wondering if this version takes into account the security passcode? Reason for asking is that it does not prompt me for it.

At 8:04 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

What do you mean by security passcode? You set your phone number and your password in the preferences and it saves it in your saved passwords for firefox. If you mean the firefox master password, mine appears to ask for this.

At 11:09 AM, Blogger Frank said...

It used to do the security passcode, it seems to be broken. I need to sit back down with the applet and get some stuff working again. It's been months since I've touched it.

When's the next version coming out? I can't get in with out my secondary password.

At 6:12 PM, Blogger Frank said...

actually the hilarity in this is that I can't figure out how on AT&T's website to even enable a security code so I can debug this.

Someone give me some hints.

It looks to me that the log in is the same as Cingular used to be. When you go to the ATT.com web sight and click on mywireless near the middle it goes to the same type of websight that Cingular used. In fact I use the same information for the ATT sight that I've used for Cingular.

I know beggars can't be choosers but is this ever going to be fixed?

At 7:27 PM, Blogger Frank said...

yes :-( I'm sorry it's taking awhile. Matt and I both have a lot of side stuff going on.

Is this project dead? Last update was 20 June? To bad, very useful application.

Steve responded like a week ago (the last post before you) saying that it was going to be fixed. Both he and Matt are busy. So in other words. It is on the shelf until one of them is ready to work on it some more.

At 4:39 PM, Blogger Frank said...

wow.. this thing should date comments .. it'd make me feel more guilty when I look here and see people posting.

Matt and I have talked a couple of times about what needs to be fixed/done yada yada but nothing has come of it.

I don't have Cingular/AT&T service anymore so the best I can do is use a coworker's family plan to test things.

Latest thing I think we talked about is when Cingular throws up some sort of ad on the login screen our tool doesn't get past it. The only fix in that case is the user has to go through the website and do it their self.

so at this point, we haven't full-on abandoned this project, but we'd be more than happy to find a volunteer to take it over.

I agree it should date things. I've been looking for an update since late June. I'm not good with things like this so unfortunately I am not here to take the burden off of your shoulders.

Hi Steve, I haven't done any programming since FoxBase and FoxPro. I haven't done any C or C++ programming if that's what your program is written in, but with some help and guidance from you I'd be interested in working on this project in my spare time. It will give me something to do since the wife says I'm semi-retired.

any chance we could get a ff3 version soon? :-)

At 10:03 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Derek,

If you edit the install.rdf for this extension you can change the max version and it will be compatible. Or you could install Mr. Tech local installer. You will have to edit the install.rdf for that but if you do this you can make all of your extensions "work" with FF3. This is not to say that they will work as expected. But so far I haven't seen anything too far off.

it's not working for me.
the prefs window has a line at that top that says "#cingularMinutes{font: ...}" and clicking the OK button doesn't do anything.
