Changing gears

It's probably poor form to comment, but google finally indexed this little site here and I'm kind of excited about it. It's good timing as the 0.4.2 release is really the one I'm most confident in so far. At the same time, I have the extension submitted to mozilla's addon site so hopefully that will go through in a week or so.

I've been working on rewriting the underlying javascript. The code is actually a bit embarrassing, but functional, the way it is. Random methods everywhere with no concept of object-orientedness or cohesion throughout the code. That's alright though, generally speaking it works. The next update will probably include some changes to the statusbar popup menu and the preferences screen. Sadly, grad school started up about two weeks ago (notice the last post date) and I've become increasingly busy so that update will take a little more time to get done than before.

As always I'd really appreciate any feedback. If you don't know what sort of things to tell me, just drop me a line telling me that you'd be happy to talk and I can throw you some questions that would really help me out.

Does this work with Cingular Pay As You Go accounts?

Honestly I don't know. I don't have anyway to check that out. If you're interested install the extension and let me know how it goes. It should only take a minute to install it. Drop me an email at cingularminutes AT gmail and let me know if it works or not. If not, I can probably fix it up if you could give me a little bit of information about how it acted.

let me know how it goes,
Matt

Hi Matt,

I attempted it last night and it doesn't appear to work. With a Pay As You Go account, the login consists of your phone number and a pin (4 digit).

Here's the link to the login screen for the Go Phone accounts at Cingular: https://www.paygonline.com/websc/index.jsp

When I entered the info into your extension (great idea btw!), it tried to login for about 20 seconds. The extension is reporting "Could not login to Cingular."

Thanks and hopefully this helps.

This might be a tough one. I don't have access to that service. At this point, I'm unfortunately not going to able to support that pay as you go because of the different connection method. If I can get access to that login process I could probably get it working, but I don't have time to get that working with grad school having started up. Give me a couple of months and we'll see what happens.

Cool. Thanks for checking it out. Good luck in grad school -- just finished it myself!

I have been looking for a Cingular extension for months, finally found and installed yours. This rocks! I particularly love the hover table displaying additional information. Outstanding! In future versions, is there any way to incorporate data usage as well?

This is awesome. The work you have put into this is really appreciated! I only have one problem. My FireFox Updated today to 2.0 RC1 and now the extension fails to work. Will you be releasing a new one that will work with the updated FireFox anytime soon? Thanks. The extension rocks!

I figured out how to change it myself. All I did was change the maxVersion value to "2.0" So if anybody is having the same issue as I was having you can get it from me here: http://www.ryanmoody.com/downloads/cingularminutesminder_04_2.xpi

Thanks once again for the incredible extension!

@travis - glad to hear it's working for you. about the data thing. I was thinking about implementing that. It seems like it'd be helpful. Unfortunately, I don't have that service (I'm too cheap right now) so I don't know what it looks like. At this point I think I'm in polish and maintain mode until I graduate (this is my last semester). So, I'll add that to the list of features to try to work out, that'll probably be around January. Good thought though. If you don't mind helping me out drop me an email so I can get in touch with you that way. I think it'll just be a matter of parsing the page a little differently, but I'll need the html behind it when I get to that part. cingularminutes AT gmail.

@ryan m - thanks for the feedback and good job with the fix. I hadn't gotten around to it yet, but I'll try to do that tonight so it's fixed up.

Does not work via Proxys? Any ideas?

Robert: I haven't tried it with proxies. I don't really have any advice for you. I'll add that to the issues list, but I'm in a bit of a holding pattern. School is taking up a pretty good chunk of my time right now. Sorry it's not working through the proxy, if you have any suggestions let me know.
